Mattel celebrates the power of play with a global event for children around the world.

Mattel has launched its second annual Global Day of Play event, a company-wide community service initiative that aims to inspire children to experience the power of play.

More than 1,000 Mattel employees across 30 international cities dedicated their time during events held throughout the month and on an official day. They worked with 45 nonprofit organizations to reach more than 8,000 children around the world as part of the experience.

Mattel has already hosted several activities for its 2019 Global Day of Play at its El Segundo, Calif. headquarters, including a play date for more than 200 kids from LA’s Best, Boys & Girls Club of Carson and the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital at the Mattel campus. The event was highlighted by organized activities in partnership with local sports teams, meet-and-greets with athletes and a give-back initiative with the nonprofit organization Save the Children.

Internationally, Mattel also partnered with hospitals around the world to bring the play to children everywhere. Partners for global initiatives include:

  • Brussels Children’s Hospital in Belgium;
  • L’Elan Retrouvé Day Hospital in France;
  • Heim Pál Children’s Hospital in Hungary;
  • University College London Hospitals in the U.K. and
  • The John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital of Buffalo in the U.S.

Hospital partners joined nonprofit organizations, such as:

  • Collingswood Children’s Farm in Australia;
  • the Fondazione Istituto Buon Pastore in Italy;
  • Kantaya in Peru and
  • United Way in the U.S.
  • “We believe in a world where every child has the chance to play,” says Amy Thompson, chief people officer, Mattel. “In partnership with communities around the globe, we are honored to bring children those opportunities with our second annual Global Day of Play. This initiative is an important part of a companywide commitment to positively impact the lives of children, while also igniting the passion for play in all our employees.”

The Mattel Children’s Foundation organizes the Global Day of Play in partnership with the Mattel Global Philanthropic Alliance Team.
